I produced digital one-page case studies showcasing the work of social entrepreneurs in Wales from under-represented communities to encourage others from marginalised communities to reach out and access support from UnLtd and Social Business Wales. UnLtd finds, funds and supports social entrepreneurs - people with solutions to change our society for the better.

The brief

UnLtd wanted to showcase the amazing organisations that were emerging in Wales because of the various support that UnLtd and Social Business Wales had given the entrepreneurs. The case studies needed to show how the entrepreneurs from marginalised communities had progressed from the initial idea to where they are today, and how they got there with the support received. Visitors from marginalised communities to the UnLtd website who read the case studies would hopefully feel inspired to seek support for themselves if they have a business idea.

The process

To complete the case studies, I interviewed each of the entrepreneurs individually to learn about the progression of their organisation from the very beginning to where they were at the time of interview. I asked them what challenges prompted their initial business idea, how they came to discovering the solution, their achievements so far, what’s next for their business and the support they received along the way. I recorded these interviews which I then turned into a condensed, written study that would fit on one A4 page suitable for the UnLtd website. The case studies summarise succinctly, but don't lose any key details from their story. I created the case studies in Adobe InDesign, branding them with the Social Business Wales colours, and included motifs aligned to the UnLtd brand. 

The social media assets were made in Canva and also branded with Social Business Wales colours. These assets were to be adjusted to work best on Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn and X (formerly Twitter). The designs include a quote from each case case study that provide a glimpse into what impact their business is having to draw attention to the story.

Once I received feedback and confirmation that the copy was approved by the UnLtd and Social Business Wales team, and each entrepreneur, I worked with a translator to receive a Welsh translation. I then transformed each case study and social media asset into Welsh versions.

The outcome

The final case studies are inspiring because they showcase honest and authentic stories of the entrepreneurs personal struggles which led them to begin a business. They encourage using services from UnLtd and Social Business Wales because the case studies clearly show how useful these services have been to each entrepreneur. The copy within the design is clear, legible and easy to read following accessibility guidelines. The designs are eye-catching with pops of colour and engaging with imagery of the entrepreneurs. They reflect the diversity of social entrepreneurs in Wales and how someone from a marginalised community can begin something special to help others.
